Asafoetida Resin

Asafoetida resin (Hing) is a strong-smelling natural gum resin extracted from the roots of certain Ferula plants. It is commonly known as “hing” in South Asia and is widely used in cooking and traditional medicine.

In cooking, asafoetida is used in very small quantities because of its intense aroma. When heated in oil, it develops a savory, onion-garlic-like flavor, making it especially popular in vegetarian dishes, lentils (dal), curries, and spice blends.

In traditional Ayurvedic practices, it is valued for its digestive properties. It is often used to help reduce gas, bloating, and indigestion, and is considered beneficial for gut health.

Although raw asafoetida has a very strong and pungent smell, once cooked, it enhances the overall flavor profile of dishes and acts as a natural flavor enhancer.
